Most people are aware software engineers are paid quite well. Some companies pay their developers more than others. In order to attract the top talent from around the world, companies try to make their incentives and compensation as high as possible. This year, the job review website, Glassdoor, compiled a list of the top companies from around the United States that pay their software engineers the most. The list has a number of Silicon Valley’s big hitters, as well as a several surprises. Here are the top ten highest paying companies for software engineers:

Integral Systems

Average base salary: $117,927

Founded in 1982 and based in Columbia, Maryland, Integral Systems is a manufacturer of satellite ground systems and has supported over 205 satellite missions for communications, science, meteorological, and earth resource applications. Some of Integral’s primary customers include satellite operators, spacecraft and payload manufacturers, and aerospace system integrators. Due to the conceptual difficulty of the problem domain, Integral System attempts to attract some of the brightest engineers to solve these difficult problems.

Average base salary: $121,507

As nearly everyone in the world knows by now, Facebook is an online social networking service. Founded in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, the online service now has more than 1 billion active users. With an aim to increase the openness of the world, the site alone accounts for one in seven website hits in the world. Software engineers at Facebook can take pride in knowing their work is seen by a good percentage of the world’s population.

Average base salary: $122,110

Easily the most surprising entry on this list, the retail giant Walmart pays their software engineers quite well. Walmart is the single largest private employer in the world with over 2 million employees. Founded in 1962, Walmart has grown into a $450 billion company. Software engineers are tasked with maintaining the company’s website, inventory systems, logistics, and automated many other company processes. If it weren’t for superior logistics and other technological automation, Walmart wouldn’t see the success it has.

Average base salary: $122,905

Headquartered in Redwood City, California, Oracle specializes in developing and marketing computer hardware systems and enterprise software products. Founded in 1977 by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates, Oracle has revenues in excess of $37 billion. Some of Oracle’s top products include their suite of database development systems, enterprise resource planning software, customer relationship management software, and supply chain management software.

Average base salary: $124,630

Apple is one of the most influential technology companies in the entire world and as a result seeks the best software engineers in the world by alluring them with an enticing salary. Originally founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, Apple makes roughly $170 billion per year. With an estimated total company value of $415 billion, Apple is also the largest publicly traded corporation in the entire world based on market capitalization.

Average base salary: $124,863

The popular microblogging service, Twitter was founded in March of 2006. With more than 500 million registered users, Twitter is one of the most heavily visited websites in the world. The site handles 340 million new tweets per day and 1.6 billion search queries, which requires quite a bit of technical know-how to manage. Google is the number one most visited website in the entire world. Founded in December of 2002, LinkedIn is the premier social network for people in professional occupations and professional networking. After having their IPO back in 2011, LinkedIn now receives more than 65 million unique visitors per month and is ranked by Alexa as the 8th most popular website in the entire world. Last year LinkedIn was able to generate close to $1 billion in revenue. In order to insure their continued growth, LinkedIn is looking to hire the best software engineers around by offering them a salary difficult to refuse.

Average base salary: $159,990

Juniper Networks is the highest paying company for software engineers in the United States. With an average base salary roughly equivalent to what doctors around the country make, software engineers at Juniper are living the good life. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California the company designs and sells high-performance Internet Protocol network products and services.
