Top Ten Books Based on Video Games

A lot of people love video games based on books, but books based on video games are pretty awesome as well. If you love video games and are looking for a good read this summer, check out one of these awesome book series:

Borderlands Series

The series consists of two books, Borderlands: The Fallen and Borderlands: Unconquered by written by video game to book guru, John Shirley. Borderlands: The Fallen follows a former mercenary named Roland who is just trying to scrape a living out of the most dangerous planet in the galaxy. Borderlands: Unconquered continues to follow Roland and his adventures along with three allies, Mordecai, Brick, and Daphne who attempt to thwart the General Goddess, Gynella from enslaving the planet in corruption and crime.

Alan Wake

By author Rick Burroughs, the book follows Alan Wake, a crime novelist, and his wife, Alice, who go to the Pacific Northwest to relax for a few weeks when his wife Alice goes missing under some mysterious pretentious circumstances. The book continues to follow Wake’s desperate search to find his wife and the hellish conditions he encounters.

Assassin’s Creed Series

The Assassin’s Creed Series features five books, Assassin’s Creed: The Secret Crusade, Renaissance, Brotherhood, Revelations, and Forsaken. All of the books are authored by Oliver Bowden. The series is set in the 15th century and largely follows the character Ezio Auditore and he learns to become an assassin and becomes entangled in a war between the Assassins Order and Knights Templar.

God of War Series

There are two books in the God of War Series, by authors Robert E. Vardeman and Matthew Stover. The books follow our favorite slave to the gods of Olympus, Kratos, who is plagued by his nightmares of the his past and the yearning for freedom. When he reaches the verge of losing hope, the gods give him one last task to destroy Ares, the god of war. The series sheds new light on the bestselling video game series and on the legend of Kratos as he confronts immeasurable odds.

World of Warcraft Series

In total there are 12 novels in the World of Warcraft Series. A number of different authors have contributed their time and energy of demystifying the lore associated around the record-setting game. One of the most popular novels, World of Warcraft: Rise of the Hoard by Christie Golden is told from the viewpoint of Thrall, son of Durotan, and explores the events of the world of the orcs before the Orcish corruption. The events in the novel take place prior to Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness video game. If you are looking for a series that will provide countless hours of entertainment, this one may be for you.

Sonic the Hedgehog Series

The Sonic the Hedgehod Series were published in the UK between 1993 and 1996. In total, the series contains 6 different novels that follow our favorite adventurer.

Deux Ex

Deus Ex: Icarus Effect, by James Swallow provides an engaging novel about situated in the world of Deux Ex in the year 2027, following two people who are sent on a collision course with one of the most powerful and dangerous organizations in history with the fate of humanity hanging in the balance.

The Elder Scrolls Series

The Elder Scrolls Series is composed of two books, The Infernal City and Lord of Souls both by author Greg Keyes. The Internal City takes place four decades after the events of the Oblivion Crisis when a huge unknown mass appears off the coast of the Black Marsh during a powerful storm. It is discovered to be Umbriel, a floating city that casts a terrifying shadow and causes people to die and rise again wherever it lands. Lord of Souls picks up where The Internal City leaves off and follow Prince Attrebus who continues his seemingly doomed quest to obtain a magic sword that may hold the key to destroying the deathly invaders.

Diablo Series

Over the years, the the lore behind the Diablo games has captivated fans. Although shallow on the surface, the games take players through some of the most fascinating video game lore ever created. In total there have been 10 novels published in the Diablo series. All the novels are deeply intricate and shed further light on the current state of the Diablo universe.

Halo Series

There are currently 11 novels in the Halo series. The novels provide additional perspective into the world of Halo and the struggle of mankind in the future. If you are going to read any of the novels on this list, here is where to start. Even if you are not a fan of video games or a a fan of the Halo games, these stories won’t fall short to your expectations.
